
Introduction
The Department of Biochemistry at CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry is committed to excellence in teaching, innovation, student support, and professional development. Catering to 75 BDS students, the department provides a dynamic and student-centered learning environment that integrates foundational biochemical sciences with clinical relevance and modern educational strategies.
The department is well equipped with a biochemistry laboratory and an advanced PCR-equipped laboratory that exceeds PMDC requirements, enabling students to gain exposure to contemporary laboratory techniques and diagnostic applications. Our department is recognized for FCPS Biochemistry training by CPSP and will soon be inducting post graduate trainees under my supervisorship. In addition, dedicated small group discussion rooms facilitate case-based learning, interactive tutorials, and AI-integrated educational sessions through platforms such as NotebookLM, promoting critical thinking and active student engagement.
Alongside academics, the department strongly emphasizes mentorship, accessibility, and holistic student development. With an open-door policy, faculty members remain approachable and supportive in addressing both academic and personal concerns of students. Student Support Sessions are conducted after every block to identify challenges and provide guidance in a structured and encouraging environment. Our department also extends additional aid to struggling students under Peer Assisted Learning program. The department also promotes discipline, professionalism, teamwork, and ethical conduct as essential attributes of future healthcare professionals.
The faculty comprises dedicated and qualified educators committed to continuous professional growth and innovation in medical education. Unique faculty initiatives of our department are Faculty Skill Enhancement and Train and Share initiatives. We also have an active journal club and release a bimonthly newsletter highlighting departmental and faculty achievements.
The Biochemistry department actively encourages student participation in research projects, portfolio development, intercollegiate conferences, and academic competitions. Students under our guidance have secured distinctions, including first and second positions in molecular model-making competitions at King Edward Medical University and University of Lahore reflecting the department’s focus on creativity, academic excellence, and experiential learning.
Beyond academics, the department takes pride in nurturing character, leadership, and extracurricular engagement through its active involvement in the Character-Building Society, CMH Lifeline (Blood Donation) Society, and CMH Photography Society. Regular workshops and activities focusing on bioethics, spiritual development, and personal growth are conducted to help students evolve into compassionate, balanced, and socially responsible professionals.

Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry at CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry. As you begin your journey in the health professions, I want you to understand that biochemistry is not merely a subject to be studied for examinations; it is a way of understanding life, disease, and the intricate balance that governs the human body. My goal as the head of department is not only to help students grasp concepts, but to help them develop clarity of thought, discipline, compassion, and a deeper sense of purpose in their professional lives.
I strongly believe that medical education should nurture both competence and character. Alongside academics, we place great emphasis on moral intelligence, ethical conduct, professionalism, and personal growth. Through interactive learning, mentorship, research activities, and reflective discussions, we encourage students to think critically, communicate confidently, and grow into responsible healthcare professionals. I am particularly passionate about creating spaces where students remain connected to values, spirituality, and self-awareness amidst the demands of academic life.
