Introduction
The Department of Pathology at CMH Lahore Medical College is headed by Dr. Muhammad Saeed Anwar who leads a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty encompassing all the disciplines of the subject. These include professors, associate professors, and assistant professors in the fields of Histopathology, Hematology, Chemical Pathology, and Microbiology. The department is involved in teaching the subject of Pathology to MBBS students during their third and fourth years and various Allied Health Sciences programs. The faculty aims to build a strong foundation for the students through innovative teaching. All the members of this department have completed their certification in Health Professional Education, thus showing their commitment to excellence in medical teaching. The faculty has published numerous research articles in national & international medical journals and presented their research at scientific conferences. Moreover, the department is involved in conducting scientific workshops in various disciplines of Pathology and managing the College Scientific journal, MedEra. Faculty members are always encouraging students to get involved in research activities and provide facilitation at all levels. Our faculty plays a key role in the college mentorship program, providing students with continuous support in academics and personal development. In addition to excellence in academia, the Pathology department is heading several student societies. Currently, the department is heading the Patient Welfare Society, Qira’at & Naat Society, Photography Club, Career Counselling Board, and Constellasians Alumni Association. Students are welcomed here and encouraged to join the societies of their interest and actively participate in various events. Our aim is not only the excellence of our students in the field of medicine but beyond.
Head of Department
Dr. Muhammad Abdul Naeem is a distinguished academician, clinician, and military medical professional with an extensive career in pathology and medical education. He received his early education at Lawrence College, Murree, where he studied from 1968 to 1980. He went on to pursue his medical degree (MBBS) from Rawalpindi Medical College, graduating in 1987, followed by completion of his house job in 1988.
Dr Naeem joined the Pakistan Army in 1989 and served with dedication across a wide range of national and international postings, including Kakul, Rawalpindi, Multan, Badin, Attock, Landi Kotal, Gilgit, Abbottabad, Kohat, Lahore, and also in Saudi Arabia. His diverse service reflects both clinical excellence and leadership in varied and challenging environments.
He pursued specialization in Pathology, completing his training at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP), Rawalpindi. Over the years, he achieved multiple prestigious qualifications, including his grading in Pathology in 1994, MCPS in 2001, FCPS in 2005, FCPP in 2006, and FRCP (Glasgow) in 2017. Demonstrating a continued commitment to academic advancement, he earned his PhD in 2018, followed by post-doctoral training in 2019.
In recognition of his outstanding services, Dr Naeem was awarded the Sitara e-Imtiaz (Military) in 2017. He also held key leadership roles, notably commanding the Armed Forces Institute of Transfusion (AFIT) in 2019, one of the premier institutes in transfusion medicine. After retiring from active military service in December 2021, Dr Naeem transitioned to academia and joined CMH Lahore Medical College (CMH LMC) in January 2022. He is currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology, where he continues to contribute to medical education, research, and institutional development. An accomplished researcher, Dr Naeem has authored 57 scientific publications in national and international journals. He is also the author of two books published on Amazon, reflecting his commitment to disseminating knowledge and scholarly excellence.
