Department of Behavioral Science

Introduction

The Department of Behavioral Sciences was established under the instructions of University of Health Sciences (UHS), since the inception of this college in 2006. Behavioral Sciences Department aims to contribute in health education by identifying and analyzing cognitive, social and environmental derived barriers that influence physical and mental health. This department is taking lectures and demonstrations of MBBS, BDS, and Nursing cadets under the umbrella of National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS). Department of Behavioral Sciences is regularly publishing different articles of interest in the indexed Medical Journals. The department is also committed in the mission to train the medical and paramedical graduates equipped with evidence based medicine suffused with ethical and moral values to serve society and humanity with excellence. Main Objectives: To impart training to the students in the art and science of effective communication with patients and their families To learn and apply medical ethics in professional life. To enable students to apply principles of Behavioral Sciences for their own learning and improving skills as well as guide and counsel their patients in all circumstances. To create sensitivity, empathy and understanding of the psychosocial aspects of health Wellness Center: Behavioral Sciences Department is also running a wellness center that facilitates personal wellbeing, positive behavioral changes, decision making and maintenance of healthy social relationships of students, faculty and staff through support and guidance of trained clinical psychologists for a healthy mind and soul. Other areas relevant to these Basic Domains include Interpersonal relationship issues relevant to parents, peers and colleagues Help students to enhance self-esteem Counselling in anger management Help them to manage anxiety and depression if needed Provide them psychological assessment by reliable and valid measurement tools Provide help in psychoactive substance use whenever identified, self-reported or referred. Parental counseling is also provided, depending upon the problem of the student.
