Introduction
Welcome to the Department of Physiology at CMH Lahore Medical College & Institute of Dentistry, a vibrant hub of knowledge, learning, research, and innovation. Physiology, the integrative science of life, bridges the gap between the basic medical sciences and clinical medicine. Our department stands at the heart of medical education, exploring how the human body functions at cellular, organ, and systemic levels to form the foundation for understanding health and disease.
Since the college’s inception, the Department of Physiology has advanced remarkably, becoming one of the most dynamic and academically driven departments. We are committed to delivering high-quality, concept-based education to undergraduate students across a range of disciplines, including MBBS, BDS, Allied Health Sciences, and B.Sc. Nursing. Our highly qualified, dedicated and seasoned faculty employ a blend of modern teaching methodologies, including lectures, tutorials, case-based learning, small-group discussions, and hands-on practical demonstrations, to ensure a deep conceptual understanding of physiological mechanisms.
Our state-of-the-art undergraduate laboratory is equipped with LCDs, a sound system, and custom-designed physiology-themed visuals to create an engaging, technology-enhanced learning environment. The department also serves as a recognized centre for FCPS postgraduate training, with a well-equipped postgraduate laboratory tailored to meet the needs of advanced learners and researchers. Equipped with BIOPAC and Power Lab data acquisition systems, this lab enables real-time analysis of research data by bridging theory and practical application.
The Department of Physiology is fully recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) for FCPS postgraduate training under the supervision of CPSP-approved FCPS supervisor. Currently, a number of postgraduate trainees are actively pursuing their FCPS training in Physiology within the department, contributing to a strong academic and research-oriented environment. The department takes pride in the successful academic achievements of its trainees, with two candidates having successfully defended their theses and cleared the FCPS examination in Physiology. These accomplishments reflect the department’s commitment to excellence in postgraduate medical education, mentorship, and research training.
Beyond academics, we foster a culture of holistic development, encouraging students to participate actively in research projects, debates, quizzes, literary, and sports activities.
Rooted in tradition yet oriented toward the future, the Department of Physiology continues to evolve, integrating innovation, ethics, and excellence in medical education, learning strategies, and research activities to shape the healthcare professionals of tomorrow.
